In Florida, if you’re under 18 years old you need to have a learners license for at least 12 months before you can take the driving skills exam for a Class E drivers license. But in order to get your learners license you must first complete the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course. Anyone who has never had a license before must take the TLSAE course to learn about the dangers of impaired driving.
The good news is you don’t have to worry about fitting another class into your busy schedule. The Florida TLSAE course isn’t a full-fledged drivers ed program. It’s a 4-hour class that can be taken online with an approved provider like Aceable.
Once you’ve finished up your Florida TLSAE course you’re one step closer to getting your driver’s license, which means one step closer to freedom. Hooray!
So, where do you go from here? We know you have a lot of questions, and we’re here to answer them all. Let’s take a look at what happens immediately after you complete your Florida Drug and Alcohol TLSAE course so that you can get your learner’s permit as soon as possible.
Step 1: Aceable Confirms You Completed the TLSAE Course
As soon as you complete the TLSAE drug and alcohol course, we let the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) office know that you’re eligible to get your learner’s license. While we send that information immediately, it might take a couple of days for the DHSMV to process it.
All you have to do is sit back, relax and wait for an email from Aceable to confirm the office received your eligibility notification. We’ll let you know when you can take the next step toward getting that permit!
*Please note that you won’t get a hard copy of a completion certificate or diploma.
Step 2: Take the Florida Permit Test
After you finish the TLSAE course, you’re ready to take the Florida Permit Test. When you sign up with Aceable, you can purchase the course and test together and take them both online. It’s by far the easiest way to complete both requirements for a learners permit.
As soon as you pass the exam (we’re sure you’ll ace it), your results are sent electronically to the Florida FLHSMV office. Those results will be reflected in their system within two days.
Step 3: Time to Pick Up Your Florida Learners Permit!
After Florida-authorized driving services has received all your completion information, it’s time to go pick up your learner’s permit at your local drivers license office. Don’t forget to bring all the documents required to get a permit, like proof of ID and your Parental Consent Form.
With that taken care of, you’re officially permitted! Now it’s time to have fun driving around with Mom and Dad to get the required 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training!
